The medical technologies industry

The French medical devices market in 2008 The French Medical Devices market, which grew by about 11% between 2006 and 2008, is estimated to represent about 6.2 billion euros for 2008, on the basis of a constant $/€ exchange rate in order to eliminate currency exchange rate effects.

According to SNITEM data, obtained by means of an observatory, the market breaks down as follows:

This observatory relates to 14 sector-based groups set up in 2006 making it possible to detect trends in the evolution of the MD market. While some groups are witnessing a growth in sales, others have suffered a considerable drop over several six-month periods, resulting in a drop of the market.

For example, all 14 sector-based groups mentioned above showed a + 5.07 % increase in their turnover between 2006 and 2007 compared with only + 1.79 % between 2007 and 2008.

Even if it only concerns a "segment" of the market, this slow-down in growth of over 3 points can be explained as being one of the consequences of the structural measures undertaken over the past few years.
